Safeguarding at Barham

At Barham Church of England Primary School, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is our highest priority. We are committed to providing a safe, caring and nurturing environment in which every child feels listened to, valued and protected.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Our values encourage us to be kind enough to notice when someone may need help, confident enough to speak up and curious enough to ask questions when something does not feel right.

We take every concern seriously and always act in the best interests of the child.

If your concern relates to the behaviour of an adult working or volunteering at the school, report it to the Headteacher without delay. A concern about the Headteacher should be reported to the Chair of Governors through the school office.

How we keep children safe

We safeguard children by:

• listening to children and taking their concerns seriously;
• ensuring staff receive regular safeguarding training;
• teaching pupils about safety, healthy relationships and online safety;
• following safer recruitment procedures;
• recording and responding promptly to concerns;
• working closely with parents, carers and safeguarding partners; and 
• sharing information appropriately when this is necessary to protect a child.

Operation Encompass

Barham participates in Operation Encompass, a partnership between schools and the police.

When police attend a domestic abuse incident involving a child at our school, our trained Key Adult receives a secure notification. This enables us to offer appropriate and sensitive support as soon as possible. Information is treated confidentially and handled in accordance with safeguarding and data-protection procedures.
