Accessibility Statement for Barham Church of England Primary School
Barham Church of England Primary School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to:
This website is run by Barham Church of England Primary School. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
Navigate the website using a keyboard
Listen to the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
Understand the website text as simply as possible
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We have recently carried out a significant programme of accessibility improvements across the website.
As a result:
Most of the website can now be navigated using a keyboard
Screen readers are able to understand page structure, navigation, tables, forms, and documents more clearly
Interactive elements such as menus, galleries, sliders, and buttons are now labelled correctly and usable without a mouse
However, some parts of the website are still not fully accessible. These are outlined below.
What we are still working on
Despite recent improvements, we know some accessibility issues remain:
Text resizing and reflow:
When text is zoomed up to 400%, some content may not reflow correctly and may require horizontal scrolling.
Colour and contrast:
Some colour combinations may not meet the recommended contrast ratios. Changing colours or fonts using browser settings may also affect layout in places.
Older PDF documents:
Some older PDFs (such as historic newsletters and policies) may not be fully accessible to screen reader software.
Images added through the CMS:
Some images uploaded historically do not yet have appropriate alternative text.

Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
(a) Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Text reflow and zoom
Some content does not reflow correctly when zoomed to 400%.
This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
Colour contrast
Some text and background colour combinations do not meet the required contrast ratio of 4.5:1.
This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast).
Images added through the CMS
Some images, particularly older content, do not yet have suitable text alternatives.
This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
(b) Disproportionate burden
Legacy documents
Many older PDF documents published before September 2018 are not fully accessible. Updating all historic documents would place a disproportionate burden on the school.
New documents published going forward will aim to meet accessibility standards wherever possible.
(c) Content not within the scope of the regulations
PDFs published before 23 September 2018
These are exempt where they are not essential to providing services.
Maps
The interactive map on the Contact page is exempt from the regulations. A full postal address is provided in text form alongside the map.
