Accessibility Statement
Accessibility Statement for Barham Church of England Primary School
Barham Church of England Primary School is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to https://barham.kent.sch.uk/.
This website is run by Barham Church of England Primary School. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
Navigate most of the website using a keyboard (though some menus may be difficult)
Listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)
Understand the website text as simply as possible.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.
How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
Text resizing: Text may not resize correctly when using browser settings, and lines of text may not reflow (wrap) correctly when you zoom in up to 400%.
Navigation: You cannot skip to the main content when using a screen reader (there is no "skip to content" link).
Keyboard access: Some interactive elements, such as the main menu and photo galleries, may be difficult or impossible to navigate using only a keyboard.
Documents: Most older PDF documents (such as newsletters and policies) are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
Maps: There is a limit to how far you can magnify the map on our ‘Contact’ page.
Colours: You cannot easily change colours, contrast levels, or fonts using standard browser settings without breaking the layout.

Enforcement procedure
The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).
Compliance status
(b) This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reason(s):
(a) Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Navigation: There is no mechanism to bypass repeated blocks of content (such as the header and navigation menu). This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.1 (Bypass Blocks).
Images: Some images on the website, particularly in news items and galleries, do not have suitable text alternatives (alt text), so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
Forms: Form fields (such as on the Contact page) may lack programmatic labels, making them difficult for screen reader users to identify. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions).
Reflow and Zoom: When the page is zoomed to 400%, content may spill off the screen or require two-dimensional scrolling. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.10 (Reflow).
Contrast: Some text and background colour combinations do not meet the required contrast ratio of 4.5:1. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast).
We plan to fix these issues when the website undergoes a significant redesign or replacement.
(b) Disproportionate burden
Navigation and Code Structure
Our website is built on an older content management system (Statamic v2). We have assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation, text reflow, and code structure (ARIA landmarks). We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations, as it would require a complete rebuild of the website.
We will make another assessment when the website contract is up for renewal in 2027-8
PDFs and other documents
Many of our older PDF documents are not fully accessible. We have assessed the cost of fixing these legacy documents and believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden.
(c) The content is not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Maps
The interactive map on our 'Contact' page is exempt from the regulations, but we provide the address details in text format alongside it.
